Recycled Crayons

Supplies:
Wax crayons
Aluminum foil
Cookie cutters
A paper plate
and a very hot sunny spot.

Instructions:
Start by peeling and breaking your crayons into small pieces. I left some chunky bits because it was well over 100 and figured it would be fine, if the day was cooler I’d used shavings to melt faster. Cover the plate in aluminum foil. Place the plate with the cookie cutters in a sunny spot and add the broken crayons. Let the sun do the rest. Depending on the temperature outside this could take a hour or more. Let cool inside, then pop out of the cookie cutters.

MATTRESS FAQS:
*HOW CAN I TELL IF I NEED A NEW MATTRESS?
If you bought your current mattress over seven years ago, it may be time to start thinking about a new mattress set. Other indications it may be time for a change include:
Your mattress suffers from diminished support capabilities, is not smooth or comfortable to sleep on, or shows too much wear and tear. You wake up feeling tired and remain exhausted throughout the day.

*WHY ARE TODAY’S MATTRESSES SO THICK?
Proper support and comfort are critical components of a mattress — it’s what makes for a great night’s sleep. New technologies and generous amounts of upholstery are specifically designed to support your body while reducing tossing and turning.

*WHY IS MY NEW MATTRESS SET MUCH HIGHER THAN MY OLD ONE?
While this is expected, it can certainly be surprising; however, there are several simple remedies. The first rule is, “Change the height, not the mattress.” Your sales associate can help you reduce the height of your mattress set with the following options.
Reduced height box spring — a matching box spring of equal quality at a lower height. Low profile bed frame — a strong metal bed frame of equal quality at a lower height. Drop-down metal rails — a lower height rail system that accommodates a headboard and footboard.

*MY NEW MATTRESS SEEMS TO BE SAGGING WHERE I SLEEP. WHY?
Slight body signatures are absolutely normal and expected. Fibers and foams contour your body, relieving pressure points and ensuring total comfort, so you can rest assured knowing that your new set of bedding will conform to your body like a new pair of shoes conform to your feet.
Thicker, plusher mattresses show more pronounced body signatures than firmer mattresses. In fact, you should be more concerned if you mattress does not show slight body signatures.
Body signatures should only be a concern if they exceed 1 1/2 inches. This is very rare and your limited warranty protects you from this type of defect. Just be sure that your mattress set rests on a proper bed frame and has adequate center support.

*HOW DO I SET UP MY QUEEN OR KING MATTRESS AND BOX SPRING?
Make sure you place your mattress set in an appropriate bed frame with a rigid center support that includes at least five legs. If your bed frame includes a headboard and footboard, make sure the support consists of five hardwood cross slats or three metal cross slats with a rigid center support on each cross slat.
If you have a King mattress set, you may notice the formation of body signatures. As most individuals do not sleep in the middle of the bed and tend to sleep in the same spot night after night, body signatures may form. Therefore, you may notice a ridge in the middle of the mattress, which is quite normal.

*WHY IS IT TAKING LONGER FOR ME TO GET USED TO MY NEW MATTRESS?
Most people go through an adjustment period with their new mattress. It is likely that your old mattress lost its support capabilities and your body was conforming to a non-supportive posture while sleeping. Your body needs to adjust to the corrective action of the new support system. Depending on the individual, this adjustment period my last a few days or up to a month. Your initial discomfort should subside and you will be sleeping wonderfully in no time at all!

Social Media, Facebook Timeline, You and Woodchuck's Fine Furniture - Jacksonville, Florida

Over a year ago, Woodchuck’s Fine Furniture brought in a Social Media friend located here in Jacksonville, Florida to help us out with Facebook.  It has been a lot of fun watching the growth of our Facebook business page and we have thoroughly enjoyed seeing our seasoned customers and new customers engage with us in the land of Facebook.

Since a lot of our customers are using Facebook, we wanted to share a little insight into the somewhat new feature that Facebook has recently released, the Timeline.  We hope this helps you understand a little more about the new blank">Facebook Timeline feature and if you have more questions, please feel free to ask them here and we will respond.

The timeline is similar to a scrapbook.  It’s a chronological list of events, photos and memories meant for you to share with your closest friends and family.  We’ve heard that some are not happy with displaying things from the past; however, in Facebook’s defense, that information has been there.  Depending on your privacy settings, your friends and family have been able to scroll through and see the old information.  The ability to see it is nothing new; however, the ease of changing the privacy settings for the timeline has improved greatly.  Take time to learn these settings to help you and your family with who can access your private life.

At this time, the Timeline is meant for your personal page, not business pages, so for now, you will be able to easily identify a business page from a personal page.   You can personalize your Timeline with a cover picture (the cover page privacy setting can be customized as well).  Add important events to your life within your timeline.  A working mom recently said that she was delighted to see the change because when she started working, she stopped scrapbooking.  Now Facebook has given her a very neat way to easily share her marriage, the birth of her children, even her first home purchase.  That’s the upside of what the Facebook Timeline feature brings to your table.

We’ve put together some interesting and notable changes:

  • Boxes - Items will be grouped together in their own box.  For example, when a user ‘Likes’ something, it will feed into a box in an order based on first to last click.  This group will be by month order and then by year order.
  • Order - Comments, pictures and posts that receive more likes, clicks and/or comments will be more obviously displayed.   The posts and items that don’t receive as much attention will be minimized in the users life (that kind of sounds sad) in a box further down the page.
  • Visibility - You can hide or remove events, pictures, posts, likes, or comments from your Facebook wall without permanently deleting this from your personal scrapbook ☺
  • Subscribe - If there is someone in the business community you would like to receive updates from but it seems awkward to send a friend request, use subscribe.  And when they release public updates, receive the information in your feed.
    • Teachers can allow their students/parents to follow their public updates about school and classes without actually ‘friending’ them since friending, allows access to personal information.  This will allow updates to friends about their lives without worrying what might pop up in their teachers’ (or vice versa) News Feeds.
    • For parents, this feature may work the other way around.  It will allow you to subscribe to your son or daughters college friends instead of sending them a friend request… sometimes that leaves all parties feeling a little uncomfortable.
    • Minors are not able to have subscribers; however, minors are able to get public updates from adults who have allowed subscribers. MONITOR YOUR MINORS FACEBOOK PAGE AND KNOW WHOM THEY HAVE SUBSCRIBED TO.
    • Occasional Facebookers who only use FB to keep up with friends, family and post photos, pay attention: You never have to see your bff’s Mafia War or Farmville updates again; however, if you’d like, you can subscribe to her photos, videos and status updates

Important Take Away:

  • Learn your privacy settings and get them set up to decrease any angst you have about the new timeline.
  • Enjoy updating the timeline as if it’s something your family will enjoy
  • If you’re a business professional, don’t feel obligated to accept friend requests from those that are business or otherwise.  They have the ability to subscribe.
  • And if you are a business professional that people like to follow, post important public updates.  Knowledge is power, share yours ☺
  • Take advantage of the features the Facebook Timeline offers
You are important to all of us here at Woodchuck’s Fine Furniture and we want to make every means necessary to make your home a happy one.  If Facebook safety and privacy is a concern, our Social Media partner will be happy to help you.  Post your questions here or on our Facebook page, and we will get them answered.
