Hungry for Thanksgiving?!?

*1 in 6 Americans live on incomes that are food insecure.

*Over 12 million American children rely on food banks for assistance.

*A report from U.S. Conference of Mayors found that only 11% of those requesting emergency food assistance were homeless.

*Here at Woodchuck's Fine Furniture Of Jacksonville, Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on all the things we are thankful for. Friends, family, food and furniture! As we all get prepared for our Thanksgiving feast lets remember all those who will go hungry this holiday season. If you are looking for ways to help...here are some creative ways to get involved.

*Dining establishments such as McDonald's, Burger King, Subway, Panera, Pizza Hut,
and Dunkin Donuts, among others, all sell gift cards, and some start at as little as $1. The next time you patronize one of these establishments, or if you are just passing one, stop in and purchase some gift cards in the amount that you can afford. Then, the next time you see a homeless person on the street, hand him or her a food gift card. A simple meal is a heartfelt gesture that can brighten the day of someone going through a tough time.

*Why not give your leftovers to those who are hungry? Sometimes it seems like all
the restaurants are in a contest to see who can serve the biggest portions. Everywhere the portion sizes are huge! You can started asking the waiter or waitress to pack half of your dinner to-go (you can even ask them to include a plastic fork) before it ever even comes to the table. You now have a wonderful restaurant meal to give to someone that needs it. If you pass any homeless people on my way home, and it’s easy to just hand it to someone out the window.

*Another way to help is by making a donation online at places like the Jacksonville City Rescue Mission. Serving the homeless and needy since 1946!! Hope begins with a
meal. Give hope for just $1.92! Did you know that $36 can feed and care for 19 people, $96 can feed and care for 50 people and $192 can feed and care for 100 people. Head over to donate.crmjax.org to make your donation today!

How ready are you for Thanksgiving?

Here are some creative ideas we found for a kid friendly Thanksgiving.  These playful feathered headdress place markers adorned with Thanksgiving-themed crafts make this kids' table colorful and fun.   There is minimal prep work that will ensure your guests stay happily entertained and provides time for the adults to enjoy conversation as they enjoy their peaceful meal nearby.

*Functional Tablecloth

Cover the table in brown craft paper to provide a place for creative minds and idle hands to color doodle or play games. Simply roll out craft paper and securely tape it under the table's edges. Bonus: This durable surface protects your tabletop and makes cleaning up spills and crumbs a snap.

*Wearable Place Cards

Inspired by the story of the first Thanksgiving, these Indian headdresses are customized with each child's name as a creative way to mark their seat. They can be made ahead of time by the hostess or children who are old enough to use a glue gun.

*Kid-Friendly Centerpieces

Centerpieces for a kids' table shouldn't be fussy; they'll need to withstand possible spills and rough-housing so opt for heavy vessles like ironstone pitchers and small mixing bowls. Fill them with mums, pumpkins, acorn squash or gourds and embelish further with raffia, ribbons and feathers.

*Mess-Free Crafts

Craft projects are a great way to entertain and encourage creativity, but the dining table shouldn't be cluttered with paints and glue sticks. Instead, stock the table with an assortment of colorful beads, leather cording and feathers so the kids can create a necklace or bracelet to wear with their headdress.

*Color and Create

Fill jelly jars or juice glasses with crayons so kids can color the brown paper tablecloth as well as fun Thanksgiving paper crafts and printables, like these turkey finger puppets. Children can also be encouraged to write a list of things they are thankful for.

Our Services...

Quality Means Something to Us

We know that purchasing furniture can be a little daunting. The questions that can run through your head - Where was it made? What kind of materials did they use? Is it going to fall apart as soon as I get it home? Well, relax. We've done all the leg
work for you.

We carefully research all the manufacturers that build the furniture we sell. Do double-dowled joints mean anything to you? How about eight-way hand tied springs? Recycled steel, water-based finishes, high resiliency foam cushions? These are things we look for in the production of our furniture. Need some help with explanations? No worries. Most of our design consultants have visited at least one of our workshops where the furniture is built. So we really know whose making it, where it's being made and what materials are going into it.

Last but not least. Our furniture is here to stay. You can rest assured that the beautiful pieces we sell are made with high-end construction and quality materials. We stand behind it. We're proud of it.
